The Institutes Management Meetings with Local and International Institutions

1- ACCION International

The Dean of the Institute of Banking Studies met at the Institute premises on 3/4/2005 a representative from ACCION International / Austria and discussed the possibilities of opening new venues of cooperation between the two parties especially regarding the development of Microfinance programs in the Kingdom and the ways and means of acquainting the commercial banks for their vital role in financing the rural regions and the small and medium size projects in view of the fact that ACCION is considered a pioneer organization in the field of financing small projects and fighting poverty in different parts of the world . The representative of this international organization declared that the reason behind choosing the Institute of Banking Studies as the main stop during his tour in the Kingdom is due to the good reputation and the training facilities which the Institute has and which will help the Institute to become in the future a regional partner for this organization in the region with regards to its efforts which are directed to fight poverty and unemployment in the world especially in view of the distinguished success the Institute has achieved in implementing the Sustainable Microfinance Training Program since it was launched in 1999 in cooperation with AMIR Program in Amman.

2-The World Bank

A meeting was held at the Institute premises in Amman on 18/4/2005 with representatives from the World Bank and the Central Bank of Jordan . The representative of the World Bank clarified that his visit to Jordan came within the efforts of the World Bank to combat money laundering and financing of criminal activities in the region . He will submit his report and recommendations to the World Bank in cooperation with the Central Bank of Jordan after a thorough study of the financial and banking conditions in Jordan in order to enable it assess the technical and training needs required for combatting money laundering . During the meeting the vital role of the Institute was emphasized in training of the Jordanian financial and banking cadres whether through holding training courses for the different managerial levels by local lecturers or through seeking the help of the most famous specialized international training institutes in combatting money laundering to conduct mutual seminars and workshops by inviting the middle and upper managements to participate in these seminars and workshops. At the end of the meeting, it was agreed to strengthen the Institutes role as a training center to the Jordanian financial and banking sector through using the Institute training facilities and technical equipments in carrying out conferences and panel discussions through inviting specialized legal and international experts provided by the World Bank for the benefit of the Jordanian banking industry in this field .

3- Euromoney Training

The Institute management met the representative of Euromoney Training / UK on 10/5/2005 . The meeting focused on the methods of strengthening the existing cooperation between the two parties in the field of organizing specialized seminars and workshops on the latest issues of the international banking industry by qualified lecturers who possess specialized banking knowledge as well as practical experience in the different financial and banking subjects which are considered top priority of the banking institutuions . It was agreed , however, that the Institute will carry out during this year two specialized seminars in cooperation with Euromoney Training / UK on Financial Modeling for Credit Risk and Measuring and Managing Operational Risk and Basel II .

4- PlaNet Finance Organization

The Dean of the Institute met at the Institute premises on 31/5/2005 a delegation of PlaNet Finance / France which are specialized in supporting and developing organizations whose operations involve in financing small and medium size projects in different parts of the world. The delegation appreciated the distinguished position the Institute enjoys as a regional training center within the Sustainable Microfinance Training Program . The delegation declared that the reason behind their visit to Jordan is their desire to study and assess the methods for supporting all the parties involved in microfinance in Jordan from all financial, administrative, technical and training aspects . The delegation also emphasized their keeness to use the Institute training facilities and equipment in carrying out mutual training courses and workshops on the different subjects related to financing the small and medium size projects.

5- Crown Agents Financial Services Ltd.

Within the context of strengthening cooperation and coordination with Crown Agents Financial Services Ltd. / UK through exchange of experience and carrying out more specialized seminars and workshops, the Institute management met on 14/6/2005 Mr. Geoff Truman , Training Manager in Crown Agents Financial Services to discuss the necessary arrangements to carry out specialized seminars on advanced practical aspects of E-Banking and management of human resources in banks and financial institutions. Mr. Truman expressed the readiness of his institution to accommodate the Institute needs in these subjects, appreciated the big confidence and trust the Institute has shown in this respect and emphasized his eagerness to increase the mutual seminars with the Institute for the benefit of Jordanian financial and banking sector.
