In light of the Institute's persistent efforts to create well trained and qualified cadres possessing required professional and technical skills needed to serve their institutions to upgrade them in order to be able to cope with contemporary challenges and increasing competitiveness, as well as to be able to participate in achieving the social and economic development. The Institute held during the second quarter of this year several specialized banking seminars as follows:-
1) Risk Management from a Branch Perspective Contents
This seminar was held during the period April 3-5, 2011 in cooperation with ''Progressive Banking Solutions / Ireland'' and was attended by (10) trainees from various Jordanian banks and financial institutions.
This seminar aimed at introducing participants to risk framework and management, along with the ideal methods that must be followed by the banking sector's institutions in managing different types of debt and market risks and consequent operational risks that been applied by the branches, and how to deal with warning signs and fraud actions by either employees, management or clients.
2) The Strategic Management of Human Resources
This seminar was conducted in cooperation with ''Batt and Partners Consulting Ltd. / UK'' during the period April 10-13,2011 with attendance of (8) trainees from various banking and financial sector's institutions .
The seminar dealt with the strategic importance of human resources and how to develop them, in addition to focusing the workforce to income generating operations. Also, it discussed different issues that may affect bank HRM strategies such as Credit risks, Assit Liability Management (ALM) and best practices used to evaluate bank's performance.
3) Advanced Risk Management
This seminar was conducted in cooperation with ''Sigma Associates / UK'' during the period May 8-12, 2011 with attendance of (27) trainees from different banks and financial institutions.
This seminar aimed at deepening the participants knowledge with the advanced skills of Managing liquidity, Capital, Interest rate risk , Currencies and Credit risk as well as Bank operational risk, in addition to acquaint participants with the necessary skills of hedging against these risks and reduce their impacts in event of occurrence. Also many techniques been discussed which may be needed to improve and reform the economy in light of the bad effects of the economic and political crises that harmed many world countries.
4) Operational Risk Management
This seminar was conducted in cooperation with ''FinUltima (Financial and Management Training Company) / UK'' during the period May 29 - June 1, 2011 and was attended by (10) trainees from various banks and financial institutions.
This seminar explained the concept of operational risk management in accordance with Basel Accord and its latest suggested amendments, in addition to risk analysis skills using the best techniques. Many practical cases had been presented during this seminar which enable participants to improve their skills to discover and control the possibilities of exposuring to various types of operational risks and how to reduce its effects and to hedge against.
5) Basel II and Basel III: Analysis and Implementation
This seminar was conducted in cooperation with ''DNA Training and Consulting / Lebanon'' during the period June 5-9, 2011 and was attended by (12) trainees from various banks and financial institutions.
This seminar introduced participants to the differences between Basel II and Basel III Accord as well as the impacts on local banking capital structure and return on shareholders, equity as a result of this amendment, in addition to how to prepare a study from Basel III Accords rules and their possible influence on banking industry , capital structure and profitability. The seminar also focused on different aspects related to recommendations, rules, policies and needed changes in the institutions policies. Also many subjects related to assessing and managing bank credit risks in accordance with Basel II and Basel III Accord were covered .
6) Advanced Currency Risk Management
This seminar was conducted in cooperation with ''Sigma Associates / UK'' during the period June 19-23, 2011 and was attended by (9) trainees from various banks and financial institutions.
This seminar was aimed at deepening the participants knowledge of interest rate risk and currency risk as well as the banking operational risk and advanced skills needed to manage these risks and to reduce their impacts in the event of occurrence.
At the end of these seminars, the management of the Institute of Banking Studies thanked the institutions collaborating with and the seminars, instructors for their efforts to make those seminars successful ones like other seminars that were conducted at the Institute in cooperation with training institutes and global leading banking and financial institutions. Then the participants were granted certificates of attendence and they were thanked for their attendance and for the role of their institutions in supporting the training activities of the Institute.
